A Disciples Of Christ community in Enid, Oklahoma
Worship is a very important aspect of Central members’ church life. We gather each week to encounter God in fellowship with the Divine and each other. We seek to worship God with joy and thanksgiving in our hearts. For us, worship is a scriptural-based activity in which we adore our God through praise, prayer, song, and proclamation. We offer innovative and engaging worship in several venues, both contemporary and traditional. Central provides three worship services each Sunday morning and one Saturday in the early evening. Several special worship services throughout the year also help our church family celebrate the cycles of the Christian year. The Lord's Supper is served each service and is open to all Christians who proclaim Jesus as the Christ.
Saturday 5:30 P.M. Worship in the Chapel
This worship gathering is casual and intimate while retaining many traditional elements of worship. During this worship service, you can expect the singing of a variety of hymns and “praise and worship” songs, liturgies, reading of scripture, an inspirational message, and the observance of communion. The guitar is the primary musical instrument used in this service. Dress casually for this service, which usually lasts about 45 minutes.
Sunday 8:00 A.M. Traditional Worship in the Chapel
This informal, traditional worship begins with greeting one another. This service
features the singing of several familiar hymns out of the denominational hymnal.
You will experience Scripture reading, a message from one of our ministers, and the
open celebration of the Lord’s Supper for all Christians. It’s not unusual to see
someone in a suit sitting next to someone in jeans at this service, where all are
comfortable.
Sunday 10:15 A.M. Contemporary Service, "Revive and Renew" in the Chapel
The general atmosphere is more casual than our other Sunday worship services and emphasizes contemporary praise and worship music led by an accomplished ensemble of musicians including song leader, guitar, and drums. Announcements and lyrics are projected onto screens. You will experience a time of greeting one another, sharing of joys and concerns, Scripture reading, a message from one of our ministers, and offering. The gathered community of Christians comes forward to celebrate Communion by intinction.
Sunday 10:15 A.M. Traditional Service in the Sanctuary
This worship service features a more formal style of worship. From the opening moments of worship, beginning with pipe organ music and meditation, through hymns of praise, acts of prayer, magnificent anthems, proclamation of the Biblical story, and the weekly celebration of the Lord’s Supper, we worship God and celebrate community with a spirit of joyful reverence and awe. Our Bell Choirs play several times each year; and other musicians, youth, and children's ensembles periodically offer their gifts in worship. As in the other Sunday services, it is not unusual to see someone in a suit sitting next to someone in jeans.
Children’s Church
Most children four years through third grade attend the first fifteen minutes of worship with their parents and then leave for Children’s Church. In Children’s Church they will hear a Bible story, engage in a creative activity, and enjoy a snack.
Child Care
What better place to start teaching children that the church is a place of fun and caring than in the nursery? It is open from 8:45 until the close of worship and is always staffed with experienced childcare workers.
