The Disciples are coming to Durango, Colorado!  As you are aware by now, Shannon and I have been called to start a new church in Durango, Colorado, for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  Wow!  What a calling!  The task seems monumental, but it also seems like exactly the right thing to do.  We strongly feel that God is already at work in Durango, preparing hearts and minds to receive the message of God's love, through Christ Jesus, with a Disciples' emphasis on openness and hospitality.  We are convinced that the people of Durango, coming from varied backgrounds and world-views, will be drawn to the open table of our Lord, where they all are welcome to come just as they are.
   We are so excited and anxious to get started in December, even though our hearts are heavy with all that we leave behind.  But, we want to invite you to come with us, in a way.  You see a new church start depends totally upon God, and some willing and hardworking hands.  Recognizing our dependence upon God, we want to gather a team of praying Disciples (Disciples Praying for Durango) who will commit to praying for this new church: for God's guidance, for people to be open to the Good News, for God to open doors in the community, for God to protect and bless Shannon and me, for the joys and concerns which will arise during these early days.
  For everyone who agrees to join our prayer team, we are offering monthly newsletters to update the progress, to give direction to your prayers, and to put names and maybe even faces to this new ministry.  We will be using the Internet to email these newsletters (we have to keep costs down), so we'll need your email address.  Or, you can pick up copies of the newsletter from the Central Christian Church office.
