Kevin's Korner

In our continuing discussion of forgiveness, in my Sunday school class, we discovered other related issues.  One such issue is "good judgement," and how to use it in situations related to forgiveness.
Jesus said, "Do not judge others, so that God will not judge you, for God will judge you in the same way you judge others, and he will apply to you the same rule you apply to others"(Matt 7:1). How do we apply this teaching of Jesus, when we all know that we have to make judgments in life. We have to judge who will be our friends, who we will marry, what life-style we will live, what values and morals we will follow, what behaviors we will encourage from our children, etc. We must make "good judgments."
Too often we make our judgments based on the way people look, the way they dress, the way they talk. Too often we judge the different way people live, the different way they get the job done, the different way they worship. Too often, we judge criminals, politicians, teachers, preachers, by a single word or action, as if that one word or deed ruined the whole person
On the other hand, seeing a person, and knowing the way they dress or talk, can help us to know what to say to them to make them feel comfortable or accepted.  Watching the way other people live, work or worship can help us learn new ways, or decide what might work for us. And remember, a single word or action can make a huge difference, for the good, in a person's life.
The bottom line is; we all must make "good judgments" about people, ideas and actions, if we are to survive and prosper in this world. I think we all agree that each of us should judge his/her own actions. But, how should we act in response to another person's actions or words? This is what Jesus was talking about when he
